Making a Difference Online and in Real Life

Everyone likes to make a difference in the world. Some differences can are small:  a mouse click that provides a small bit of nourishment. Some differences are large: they can literally save lives and change hearts.

Listed below are some organizations which provide opportunities to help make a difference in people's lives. Read a little about each organization and see which one fits into the call of God to serve. Each of us has a unique mission to serve God's people. Each of us has a unique call by God to do something life changing. Below is your chance to get started on entering the Kingdom of God.

Vermont Catholic Charities is a licensed, statewide human service resource of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington. The Burlington office, located in the Bishop Brady Center at 351 North Avenue, serves Vermont's ten northern counties. The Rutland office, located at 24 1/2 Center Street, serves the four southern counties.

The purpose of the The Office of Family Life/Respect Life is to support families as the fundamental aspect of society. We are here as ministers to provide resources which can assist and enable you to move through events and changes which bring with them both joy and sorrow.

Project Rachel is a post-abortion reconciliation/counseling program which has both priests and counselors specially trained to help you through a healing process. Project Rachel offers the opportunity to receive professional counseling. Such counseling can help people sort through feelings and deal with any unresolved conflicts. Having someone to talk to confidentially can be a step toward healing.

The Hunger Site focuses the power of the Internet on a specific humanitarian need - the eradication of world hunger. On average over 220,000 individuals from around the world visit the site each day to click the "donate free food" button and help feed the hungry. Founded in June 1999, The Hunger Site was the first "click-to-donate" site on the Web.

The Rainforest Site was founded May 1, 2000 to help protect our environment. Visitors to The Rainforest Site can save a free area of rainforest with the "click of a button."

Launched in October 2002, The Child Health Site focuses the power of the Internet on a specific need -- saving children's lives and improving the quality of their health. Over 200,000 children die every week from preventable causes, and many millions more suffer from preventable disease, curable blindness, landmines and other crippling accidents. To learn more about some of the health issues children face today.

Launched in October 2002 The Animal Rescue Site focuses the power of the Internet on a specific need -- providing food for some of the 27 million unwanted animals given to shelters in the US every year. Each click on the "Feed an Animal in Need" button at The Animal Rescue Site provides a bowl of food for an animal at the world's largest pet adoption center, North Shore Animal League America, or at one of the Fund for Animals' world renowned animal sanctuaries, including the Black Beauty Ranch in Texas and the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in California.

The Breast Cancer Site was founded to help offer free mammograms to underprivileged women nationwide -- women who will possibly go undetected, and even die -- without proper screening.

Pax Christi USA strives to create a world that reflects the Peace of Christ by exploring, articulating, and witnessing to the call of Christian nonviolence. This work begins in personal life and extends to communities of reflection and action to transform structures of society. Pax Christi USA rejects war, preparations for war, and every form of violence and domination. It advocates primacy of conscience, economic and social justice, and respect for creation.

Founded in London in 1961, Amnesty International is a grassroots activist organization dedicated to freeing prisoners of conscience, gaining fair trials for political prisoners, ending torture, political killings and "disappearances," and abolishing the death penalty throughout the world.
