Opportunities to Volunteer

There is no faster way to build community than for people to work together for a common goal. While dollars help to pay our bills, there is nothing as important as people's gifts and talents. We need everyone to make this community great.

We ask every family to give at least 30 hours of service to our school community. While it is essential to our community health and well-being, many who are involved will also indicate that it is fun, too. For someone who is new to our community, or even for someone who has been a part of the community for some time, the first question can be,

"What can I do?"

Below is a list of possibilities.

Bingo	This is the school's major fundraiser. This current year bingo has raised over $40,000. Volunteering for bingo involves manning the sales tables, selling instant tickets, and being flexible. Volunteers work in teams, and the more volunteers the easier this commitment becomes. Many will tell you this also is a fun way to meet people.
Home and School	This is St. Francis Xavier's parent organization. In addition to fundraising, this organization also works to be the "heart" of our school by creating social opportunities that are a lot of fun, for both students and parents. Many individual events are overseen by Home and School.
Calendar Raffle	Essentially a raffle, this has the possibility of raising tens of thousands of dollars for the St. Francis Xavier Community. By purchasing a $25 ticket, there is the chance to win at least $25 every day of the year. There are also opportunities on some days to win significantly more.
Vermont Kids School and Camp Fair	This is an opportunity to share with the community the great things occurring here at St. Francis School. Held in past years at the Radisson, this event essentially means being part of a booth to explain the programs of St. Francis Xavier School.
Calcutta Dinner	A new fundraiser to St. Francis, prizes are solicited from the community, and dinner tickets are sold. Volunteer opportunities include selling tickets, soliciting donations, decorating and more.
Homeroom Parents	Teachers are in need of support to provide the best educational environment possible. Duties vary, and teachers are eager to put each person's unique gifts to work. Each grade has possibilities.
5K Fun Run	Another new fundraising event, this run is designed both to help us to raise money, but equally as important to create a fun event that also gets us in shape! There are a variety of ways to help to make this event successful.
Computer Network Assistance	We are always in need of people with the expertise to help us to make the most of the technology we have. Of particular need is people who have computer network skills.
Web Site Design	The most underutilized resource we have available is our school's website. We are searching out parents (and others) who could provide assistance to designing and maintaining our web site.
Field Trip Driver / Chaperone	On our dream list is acquiring new vans and a bus for field trips. But until then, we need parents to help with the task. This provides a nice opportunity to share in your child's education.
School Cleaning	From time to time we have the opportunity to do some major cleaning of the school. We are looking for people who can help us to get things in order.
Lunch Room Help	We have been fortunate to bring back a hot lunch program. One of the keys to success has been our ability to keep costs low by using volunteers to help with serving and clean up. This is an important area of help for us.
Buildings and Grounds	We are in need of people with building and maintenance skills to help keep our building in great shape.
Registered Nurses	If you are a registered nurse and could provide assistance to our school, please let us know.
Suggestions	We are always looking for new ideas to get people involved in our community. Don't hesitate to suggest an idea not listed here.

There are other ways to help our school that don't require additional time but can assist us in getting much needed funding or other resources.
