A Letter From the Chair of the School Board

Dear Friends,

For those of you who may not know me, I am the current head of the St. Francis Xavier School Board. I have a long history with St. Francis Xavier School. My oldest daughter started kindergarten there in 1986. My youngest son just completed kindergarten and eagerly awaits the beginning of first grade. A mother’s heart follows her children and my seven children have spent quite a bit of time within the classrooms of St. Francis Xavier, so over these past 20 years St. Francis has become almost my “home away from home.”

I’ve been brought into contact with many wonderful people — both children and adults — during my time at St. Francis. Being on the Board gives me even more opportunities to see just how much love and faith pour into our school on a daily basis from so many different sources. The children bring life, spirit and a sense of hope and excitement with them each day. Our teachers and staff bring patience, understanding, and a commitment to excellence and learning. Our numerous volunteers bring energy, ideas and enthusiasm for our mission. And our wonderful Pastor, Father Lavalley, oversees it all with faith and a commitment to the spirit of our namesake, St. Francis Xavier, who knew that the instruction of children in a faith filled environment was the key to the future.

And, of course, there are all of you. I have been overwhelmed by the response to our recent annual appeal. There are so many of you who are supporting us both financially and spiritually. I am so grateful. Your financial help and your prayers sustain our school in its mission of teaching our children in the spirit of Christ.

A few years ago our school was dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe. The image of Our Lady as it miraculously appeared on St. Juan Diego’s cape hangs in the main lobby. In speaking of that image, someone once said, “Who would ever choose a worn cloak, spoiled with a seam, as the base for a masterpiece?” Who indeed? And who would ever choose a small school, in a small town, in a small state to be the recipient of so much love and faith and generosity? Masterpieces appear in the strangest places. Thank you for being a part of ours.

Sincerely,

Robin McCormick
