How Is Someone Saved?
Put simply, salvation is the free gift of God, given to all. To be saved, we must accept the gift of salvation that God gives to us. How does someone do this? Most simply, by accepting Jesus into our lives. A personal relationship with Jesus is clearly the pathway to salvation.
But how does one do this? How is one saved? What does it mean to accept Jesus? Most importantly, to accept Jesus is just that: to accept and give to Jesus his place in our life; to surrender to the will of Christ in what we do, and in how we live; to reach out and serve the needs of the poor; and, to join ourselves with the community of believers, which is the Church. Jesus, while calling people to an individual relationship with him, also invited his followers to join together in the Church.
>Perhaps the beginning of the gift of salvation is to make room in our lives for Jesus. How does one do this? First, by finding the quiet space that is essential for prayer. Making some time in our lives where we ask Jesus to come into our lives. Making room for Jesus by silent reflection, and by reading the Bible. Second, by talking to other members of the Church. Seeking out others to hear from them about their personal experiences of faith and of Jesus. Third, by seeking out a priest, to discuss with him your quest for Jesus.
After prayer and conversation, asking Jesus to come into your life, discuss with a priest about becoming a Catholic. One becomes a Catholic by being baptized. The process for adults to become a Catholic is called the RCIA. The RCIA is a process of becoming Catholic, and also a process for those already baptized Christians who wish to become Catholic. The RCIA is also used when a Catholic has not completed the Sacraments of Initiation.
