There is no faster way to build community than for people to work together for a common goal. While dollars pay our bills, the generous contribution of people's gifts and talents is equally important. Family service at the school creates one of the school's great strengths an interconnected community. In our small environment, parents not only get to know their children's teachers and close friends, but many other parents, students, and faculty. Here at St. Francis Xavier the community really does raise the children!

For this reason we ask every family to give at least 30 hours of service to our school each year. This can be done in many ways, and the contributions of extended family members such as aunts, uncles, and grandparents can be applied to your service hour requirement. We acknowledge that some families have serious time constraints, and for that reason we offer the opportunity to pay $20 per hour in lieu of volunteering.

For someone who is new to our community, or even for someone who has been here for some time, the first question can be, How can I help? Below is a partial list of opportunities:

Home and School: This is St. Francis Xavier's family organization. In addition to some fundraising, this organization also works to be the heart of our school by creating social opportunities that are fun for students, faculty, and families. They host events such as the opening day barbecue, the Halloween party, the Open House Breakfast during Catholic Schools Week, and Fun Day.

Parent Ambassadors: This is an opportunity to share with the community the great things occurring here at St. Francis School. This can entail visiting other parishes to explain our programs and share the good news about St. Francis Xavier School, staffing a booth at local businesses to promote our school and summer programs, or taking advantage of other opportunities to promote our school.

Calcutta Dinner: Prizes are donated by members of the community, and dinner tickets and a numbered ball are sold. Volunteer opportunities include selling tickets, soliciting donations, decorating and more.

Homeroom Parents: We welcome family involvement. Duties vary, and teachers are eager to put each person's unique gifts to work. Each grade has possibilities.

St. Francis Stampede 5K and Children's Races: These varied running races promote physical fitness and community spirit while raising money for the school in a fun environment The races are typically held the second Saturday morning in May each year at the school. Volunteer opportunities include registration, traffic control, and finish line.

Computer Network Assistance: We are always in need of people with the expertise to help us make the most of the technology we have. Of particular need are people who have computer network skills.

Field Trip Driver / Chaperone: On our dream list are vans and a bus for field trips. Until then, we need families to help with the task. This provides a nice opportunity to share in your child's education.

School Cleaning and Refreshing: From time to time we have the opportunity to do some major cleaning or other updates, such as painting, in the school. We are looking for people who can help us to get things in order.

Lunch Room Help: We are pleased to be able to offer a hot lunch program at St. Francis. One of the keys to success has been our ability to keep costs low by using volunteers to help with serving and clean up.

Buildings and Grounds Special Projects: We sometimes need people with building and maintenance skills to help keep our building in great shape.

Your Suggestions: We are always looking for new ideas to get people involved in our community. Don't hesitate to suggest an idea not listed here.
